Overall

Tucked away on a quiet stretch of Main Street, Lone Star Brewing Co. is exactly what Austin's craft beer scene needed. The taproom feels like a modern Texas saloon with exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and a massive bar that stretches the length of the room.

The beer lineup is solid across the board. The Texas Gold Lager is one of the best session beers I've had in the state, and their Lone Star IPA punches well above its weight with a complex hop bill that changes seasonally.

Food is typical brewpub fare but executed well. The brisket tacos pair perfectly with the wheat beer, and the loaded nachos are big enough to share.

Location is prime for a pub crawl down 6th Street, though the brewery itself is far enough away to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds.
